Santa’s Warm Up Run…

122409We all know Santa Claus has a BIG job to do tonight, but that didn’t stop him from spreading some holiday cheer at Brundage today, and taking a couple runs on his snowboard.

(Santa must get lots of practice at the North Pole, he’s got some sweet skills on that board!)

Santa tells us his elves are right on top of preparations at the North Pole, and his reindeer were taking a last-minute nap to save up energy for their big journey. That left him some time to take photos with our visitors and enjoy the beautiful mountain scenery.

Santa expects his deliveries to go smoothly tonight, and he told us he should be back at Brundage tomorrow afternoon for a few more runs in order to ‘wind down’ before he slips into a long winter’s nap.

    Hi Dillon –
I just checked with our Mountain Manager, who says we are sending our crews out today to do some depth checking on lower Rodeo. He HOPES to be able to put up a couple rails by Sunday, but it will depend on not just the quantity of snow but also the quality of the snowpack. Sorry I don’t have a more definitive answer just yet, we are actively working on it today. Thanks for writing in!

I see you are worried about quality of snow and depth for the rails and park features, what happened to the “best” in Idaho? I have been to two other Idaho resorts and they are up and running as far as features and open parks go. I keep looking for you to start excelling but to no avail? Might want to take a trip around and Idaho to see what your missing out on there! North Idaho is rocking right now might want to check it out!

    Hi George –
I don’t think we’ve ever claimed to have the best terrain park in Idaho, and we are doing our best with what Mother Nature brings us. Many resorts that have snowmaking equipment are able to build terrain features earlier in the season. We have chosen not to install snowmaking equipment because the feedback from a majority of our guests is that they do not want to pay for the added costs of that equipment through higher pass and ticket prices. That is a decision that we make based on trying to appeal to the needs of the largest number of our guests. As for the quality of snow, we are known for soft, carvable groomed runs and light fluffy powder. That is not the type of snow that makes the best terrain features, just like it doesn’t make the best snowballs and snowmen. Man-made snow (higher moisture content, thicker, wetter) is easier to use for that purpose. Most of our guests tell us that thick, wet, man-made snow does not make the most appealing surface for those who like to ski or ride the whole mountain. I’m sure there are some people who believe that the best snow in Idaho is shot out of a snowgun, but I’m willing to bet that’s a small percentage. I’m sorry that you’re not pleased with our conditions. We certainly do hope to put in terrain features soon, but it looks like we will have to wait for another snow storm before that’s possible.

  8. Mark Says:

Quit your whining, or stay in North Idaho, these people are doing the best they can, with the “natural” snow. Conditions are Great ! As the saying goes- Good things come to those who wait.

  9. Bill Says:

I agree with Mark. George, your griping makes me tired. I’ve skied for 35 years and I can say with authority that Brundage has excellent snow. The powder is sensational. I’d be willing to bet you are a sandbagger trying to get people to ski somewhere else by dissing Brundage. Anyone who has skied the mountains within 300 miles knows Brundage is a top notch ski area.

If I remember correctly>>>>>Brundage does have ONE snow making machine.A little late now I believe as in the Summer they could run the water hose/pipes or bury it for their chosen area for the pipe/park. Perhaps someday they can dedicate that ONE snow making machine to a terrain park. It’s just a thought!!

  11. April Says:

    Hi Uncle Larry –
That is a very good point. I will be sure to pass along your idea to our mountain crews so they can consider it in their future plans. Thanks for taking the time to share your suggestion!
