The Wait is Over!
Ask any local, and they’ll tell you. It feels like an AWFULLY long time since our last bona fide powder day. That’s why it was such a massive bummer to wake up and see a thick fog layer over the top of the mountain this morning!
We got 3 inches of fresh snow yesterday and 2 more overnight. That doesn’t sound like a lot, but this time of year the slopes are practically empty mid-week, so we knew the slopes would be soft and dreamy and we were licking our chops. Most snow bums are used to a little fog, but the very first run of the day it was borderline-vomitous up on the summit. I mean, vertigo-inducing, next-to-zero visibility.
Luckily, the EXTREME fog didn’t last long, and by run number two, people were ready to charge that fresh fluff, visibility be damned. A little help from Photoshop and you can see the excitement…
Some took to the trees to keep their bearings on the upper reaches. Many others relied on the smooth, forgiving groomed runs to guide and protect them.
Once you were half-way down and out of the pea-soup fog, it was hard to resist the soft, fluffy lines off-trail.
You never really get sick of that floating, gliding sensation, but it feels even better after an El Nino-induced hiatus.
Some took refuge at mid-mountain this morning.
From the Bear Chair you can see the difference, the world sort of disappears in to a white abyss just above the “Bear Knob”.
Five inches of fresh fluff did wonders for the groomed runs, too.
Smooth, soft-as-velvet corduroy was there to appease while we waited on Mother Nature…yet again…
Luckily, a few hours after she finally delivered the powdery goods, she decided to lift her veil of secrecy, too. Letting the powder perfection out into the daylight for all to enjoy.
Finally, the wait is over!

Good for you guys on the fresh fluff, the picks look great, I live in the northwest, Longview wa. Mt. Hood has been spotty at best with new snow this year, never been to your mountain but hope to some day!

April im not sure if you would be the right person to ask but has anyone taken a panoramic picture from the top of the Bird and make it into a poster?
