A two-day celebration of ski culture.

What is it about skiing and riding that brings so many people together? How about: friends, gear, groovy ski movies, and most importantly… Beer!

Join us for a new kind of winter carnival event with the all-new Beer & Gear Festival.

Day 1 (Saturday) – Ignite Your Passion

Day 1 starts with a gear demos from our great local shops. Check out the latest technology with FREE demos (for a run or two) from Gravity Sports and Hometown Sports. A Beer Garden featuring the liquid delights of Salmon River Brewery will be on tap from noon – 4 pm.

We’ll wrap up Day 1 on the third floor as we host Winter Wildland Alliance’s Backcountry Film Festival. (Admission is FREE. Doors open at 5 pm, film starts at 6pm). The SideStash Cafe will be open late serving draft beer, wine, sodas, soups and sandwiches. The festival features 90 minutes of independent ski films with an intermission mid-way. Winter Wildland Alliance will host a raffle at intermission. Funds raised stay in the local community to support like-minded, human-powered recreation efforts and to raise awareness of winter management issues, avalanche training/safety and winter education programs.

This year’s program includes seven films:

• Winner of the Best of the Backcountry award, Skiing the Void from Sweetgrass Productions is a reflection on taking chances during their two-year odyssey in the Andes.

• A festival cut of Further, from Teton Gravity Research, brings the return of Jeremy Jones and friends to push the limits of their mountain experience under their own power.

• Luc Mehl, winner of the Hans Sari Scholarship and winner of this year’s Best Grassroots Film, chronicles an epic trip across the wild in Alaska Wilderness Classic.

•  A Story of Trust is a call for climate recovery from a nine-year-old activist and the winner of this year’s Best Environmental Film.

• Denali Experiment is a look at a different type of expedition film from Camp4Collective.

• From Switchback Entertainment comes Freedom Chair, an athlete’s journey back to the slopes and his love of winter.

Local backcountry, avalanche, and gear experts from Payette Powder Guides, Ullr Skis, Gravity Sports and Brundage Mountain SnowCat Adventures will be on hand to answer questions about safely exploring the backcountry in our area.

Day 2 (Sunday) – Explore New Techniques and Technology

Day 2 starts with a pancake feed ($7 – includes bacon) from 9-11 am, after which you can rent your favorite demo ski from Fall Line Tunes & Demo Shop (right here on the mountain). We recommend the ‘unlimited switchout’ option as the best way to experience all that ski technology has to offer. We invite you to sign up for a wide variety of skier and rider improvement clinics at an amazingly affordable rate of just $10.

Clinics run from 1pm – 3pm and focus on a variety of topics. Participants may sign up on the day-of or pre-register with the snowsports desk at 208.634.4151 x 100.

Skiing Topics:

1. Turn with Confidence – Intermediate skills for control and efficiency on blue terrain. Learn the simple value of turn shape and WHERE to go to control speed. Build confidence and spring out of the intermediate rut.
2. Sparking Arcs – Intermediate to advanced skills for carving. Learn to reduce skidding while enhancing balance and control on cruiser runs.
3. Big Bumps to Small Bumps – Intermediate to advanced skills for bumps and crud. Learn to soften you knees and ankles and steer the skis for ultimate control on a bump run.
4. Challenge the Mountain – Advanced tactics for variable conditions. Enhance skills to maintain technique anywhere on the mountain.

Snowboard Topics:

1. Turn with Confidence – Intermediate skills for control and efficiency on blue terrain. Learn the value of turn shape and transition balance for ultimate control. Build confidence and spring out of the intermediate rut.
2. All Mountain Riding – Advanced skills that challenge the mountain. Learn tactics and technique to ride a variety of terrain in the mountain environment.
