Snow Cat Facts

Brundage Mountain's Snow Cat Adventures are offered on 19,000 acres of Payette National Forest backcountry. Our guides are constantly assessing the terrain and the weather to find the best snow conditions. On a given day, your trip could include runs from any or all of the following peaks:

Altitude:

  • Granite Mountain......8,478 ft
  • Slab Butte.................8,225 ft.
  • Sargeant's Mountain....7,803 ft.
    (compare to) Brundage Mountain...7,640 ft.

Vertical Feet per Run: 800 to 2,800 ft.

Runs per day: 7 to 14 (depending on group ability, weather, snow)

Minimum people per trip: 8 people

Maximum per trip: 11 people

Skiing Ability: You should be an advanced skier or snowboarder, comfortable on most black runs. Some powder and tree-skiing experience is recommended.

Weather and Ski Conditions: Idaho Intermountain snow pack is generally dry and fluffy. However, it is important for anyone considering back country skiing to realize weather and snow conditions cannot be programmed. Weather doesn't affect our ability to travel by snowcat... you'll be skiing even when it is cloudy or snowing.

Equipment: For skiers, we prefer that you use skis designed for un-groomed snow. These skis take less energy, and help you ski better in all conditions. Included in your CatSki package will be the use of a pair of powder skis. If you are snowboarding, you may be required on some runs to carry poles while you ride so that you can return to the snow cat out of some terrain.

Please note: Participants are required to sign a waiver of liability.

Hear what our customers are saying:

"Thank you from everyone in our group. They have all been raving about what a great trip they had. For several, it was their first time out on the cat and they had some reservations about their ability and whether it would be worth the money, etc. Let me tell you, they came back saying it was the best day of skiing in their lives and they can't wait to try it again. I do believe you hooked them.

You and Les did a fantastic job of picking the best runs and getting everyone great lines. Having been lots of places with different operations, I personally want to compliment you on your program. You do a great job!" Bill M.
